On 1 October, gunmen stop two buses at Umunoha in Imo State. They are carrying graduates from Ibadan to NYSC orientation camps in Uyo and Bende, and about 20 of them are taken. A relative says the kidnappers first demand N50 million for each captive, then cut it to N5 million. Police say they have located the suspected camp and haven't gone in, because their intelligence says it is mined. The Defence Headquarters says 10 passengers were rescued. Parents say those 10 escaped on their own, and the transport company puts the number taken at 19. In June, the federal government changes how corps members are posted, and the reports on that change set out nothing new for the trip to camp.
Nigeria's electricity subsidy obligation is N679.58 billion in the first half of 2026, 35 per cent below a year earlier. The regulator ties the latest quarterly fall to distribution companies taking less power, and the coverage doesn't explain the drop on a year earlier. In South Africa, Nigeria's consulate says three Nigerians died between 18 and 21 September, in three different encounters with police, a bar customer and a television crime crew. None of its allegations has been tested in court.
The Electoral Act requires parties to give INEC their membership registers 21 days before a primary. A court later nullifies Gombe PDP's 26 May primary, and whether Isa Pantami's name is on that register is still contested. Lagos is confirmed as host of the 2026 CAF Awards on 7 December.
Here's what it means. The kidnappers' 24-hour deadline runs out on 4 October with the price already cut and the number of captives still disputed. No report available on 5 October says what follows. The subsidy explanation, the three deaths in South Africa and the Gombe register are all still being tested.
