YOUR GENERATOR BILL JUST CHANGED

Tuesday, 17 March 2026

Petrol hit N1,300 per litre in Abuja. A war you didn't start is paying for it.

Last week, petrol in Abuja was N880 per litre.

This week it's N1,300.

Dangote Refinery raised its gantry price to N1,175 per litre and cited crude crossing $110 per barrel. Marketers add logistics, transportation, mark-up. By the time it gets to your pump, the number is what the number is.

Nigeria has recorded a 35% petrol price increase since the Iran war began on February 28. That's one of the highest in the world. Cambodia is at 68%. Vietnam is at 50%. Then Nigeria. Then Laos. Then Canada.

The difference between Nigeria and Canada is that Canada has welfare systems to cushion the blow. Nigeria has PETROAN, the petroleum retailers' association, warning that prices could reach N2,000 per litre if the war continues. And diesel could hit N3,000.

The 2026 budget that just passed today was built on oil at $64.85 per barrel. Oil is above $100. The government's own revenue math is now fiction. The import licence freeze means Dangote is the price setter. And Dangote's price is set by the global market.

The war in Iran is not abstract. It's in your fuel tank, your generator, and the price of everything that gets delivered by truck.
