CAF has confirmed Lagos as host of its 2026 awards on 7 December.
The Confederation of African Football confirmed the date after its executive committee met by video on Friday 2 October, chaired by Patrice Motsepe. The ceremony will be at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, the old National Theatre in Iganmu. Guests will stay at Eko Hotel and Suites.
Nigeria will host CAF’s Ordinary General Assembly in Abuja on 21 November, weeks before the awards. A five-member CAF delegation visited in July and inspected the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre and the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja. The committee also approved CAF’s 2026 to 2030 competitions calendar at the same meeting.
Leadership counts it as the fourth time Lagos has hosted the ceremony, for the 2008, 2013 and 2014 awards. The last was on 8 January 2015, at the Eko Hotel and Suites.
Nigeria last hosted the ceremony in Abuja in January 2017, ThisDay reported, when Riyad Mahrez won the men’s prize and Asisat Oshoala the women’s. At the 2025 ceremony in Rabat, Morocco took the top player prizes through Achraf Hakimi and Ghizlane Chebbak. Chiamaka Nnadozie kept her women’s goalkeeper award. The awards cover player, coach, goalkeeper, young player and club of the year. The 2026 nominees haven’t been named in the reports cited here.
