Ramadan started today. It's already rewritten an electoral law.

The Sultan of Sokoto confirmed the crescent moon sighting Tuesday evening. Ramadan began this morning, February 18. But it had already been reshaping Nigeria's political week before the first fast started. The 2027 election date was moved. The Electoral Act's notice period was shortened. INEC is now proposing January 16, 2027 as the new presidential election date, over a month earlier than originally announced. All of it triggered by one religious calendar collision. Constitutional lawyers are divided on whether this sets a precedent Nigeria should be comfortable with.
