Nollywood's competition for the number one slot has become serious, contested, and worth watching

While the National Assembly spent the week negotiating loopholes, Nollywood filmmakers were competing for opening weekend numbers, streaming deals, and the claim to Nigeria's biggest film.

The competition is real and getting more intense. Productions are bigger, marketing is more aggressive, and the audience at home and in the diaspora keeps showing up. No government programme built this. No Senate committee is responsible for its trajectory. The industry grew because the people in it decided to build something that worked regardless of what the state was or wasn't doing.

On a week heavy with institutional failure, that's a fact worth sitting with.
