ISAAC SATLET

Monday, 16 February 2026

He was 22. He was driving to pay his fees. Pretoria passengers killed him.

Isaac Satlet was 22 years old. He was a Nigerian student in South Africa, a month from graduation, planning to continue his studies in Canada. He drove for an e-hailing platform to cover his expenses. On February 11, he picked up a male and female passenger in Pretoria West.

His body and his stolen car were found in Atteridgeville. Dashcam footage captured part of it. A female suspect was arrested and appears in the Atteridgeville Magistrate's Court today. The male suspect is still being sought.

NiDCOM has condemned the killing and demanded justice. Nigeria and South Africa have a bilateral agreement to establish an early warning mechanism for attacks on Nigerian nationals. NiDCOM says South Africa has not implemented it.

The agreement exists. The mechanism doesn't. Isaac Satlet is dead.

This is the pattern for Nigerians who leave looking for something safer: the danger is different, not absent. The question of where to be safe is being asked by millions of people, and the answer keeps changing.
