EID MUBARAK

Thursday, 19 March 2026

The moon wasn't sighted. Ramadan completed 30 days. Eid is tomorrow.

The Sultan of Sokoto confirmed it Wednesday night: the Shawwal crescent was not sighted on the 29th day. Muslims completed the full 30 days. Eid al-Fitr is Friday, March 20. The federal government declared Thursday and Friday as public holidays.

Over 100 million Nigerians fasted through a month that included suicide bombs in Maiduguri, petrol at N1,300 per litre, a budget built on assumptions that expired, and a grid running at half capacity. The mosques were full through all of it. The Durbar processions are riding in Kano and Sokoto today.

The families are dressed. The food is ready. The calls are going out across time zones from Ibadan to Manchester to Houston.

Barka da Sallah.

Thirty days of fasting through bombs and blackouts and N1,300 petrol. And still, the families dressed. Still, the food cooked. Still, the calls went out. That's not just endurance. That's a people who decided, a long time ago, that no system gets to cancel their joy. Tomorrow Nigeria will be loud and fed and dressed in its best. Not because anything got fixed. Because Nigerians showed up for each other anyway.
