EID AL-FITR

Friday, 20 March 2026

Thirty days of Ramadan are done. Nigeria is celebrating.

Today is Eid al-Fitr. Friday, March 20, 2026.

The Sultan of Sokoto confirmed it last night: the crescent wasn't sighted on the 29th day, Ramadan completed its full 30. The prayer grounds opened this morning across the country — Kano, Sokoto, Lagos, Abuja, Maiduguri. The Durbar riders are going in the north. The families are dressed.

This Ramadan ran through bombs at Maiduguri's Monday Market and university teaching hospital. Through petrol at N1,300. Through 16 power plants offline. Through a president abroad while troops held a border town. Muslims in Nigeria fasted through all of it. The mosques stayed full through all of it. The final ten nights drew crowds that queued outside in the dark.

That's not a small thing.

Barka da Sallah. Happy Eid to every Nigerian marking today, wherever you are.
