While Abuja argues about poison letters and passport seizures, Kebbi State is hosting the Argungu Fishing Festival. Thousands of fishermen in open water, competing for prizes, in a tradition that has run for over 80 years under every government Nigeria has had. It has survived military coups, structural adjustment, subsidy removal, and whatever this week is. It will survive this week too. Some things in Nigeria work simply because Nigerians refuse to let them stop.
