ANOTHER POLICY, SAME TEST

Wednesday, 18 February 2026

Tinubu launched Nigeria's Industrial Policy 2025. The electricity grid didn't come with it.

President Tinubu, represented by VP Shettima, formally launched the Nigeria Industrial Policy 2025 on Tuesday. Targets include raising manufacturing's GDP contribution to 20-25% by 2030. Aliko Dangote predicted the naira would hit N1,000 to $1 this year and called for stronger indigenous industry protection. Analysts note this is the third major industrial policy announcement in a decade. The real test, as always, is electricity. Without power reform, this is a well-designed document in search of a grid. Tinubu's own words at the launch: "Industrialisation is not a wish you think about; it is an action you perform." He's right. The action is a functional national grid.
