THE SUPPLY PROMISE

Thursday, 19 February 2026

NNPC wants to triple gas output. The grid can't carry what it already has.

NNPC announced plans to supply 1.8 billion cubic feet of gas per day to the power sector by year-end. Current supply sits around 600 million. The gap between the announcement and today is 1.2 billion cubic feet.

The grid it's supposed to feed generated less than 4,000 megawatts last week against a demand of roughly 20,000. Transmission infrastructure hasn't been upgraded in years.

More gas into a broken grid is like turning up the tap when the pipe is cracked. The water doesn't arrive. It leaks somewhere else.
